Each week, The Social Llama trots around the web to hand pick the coolest happenings in San Antonio.
About the Llama
I am Kelly. I am also The Social Llama and a homegrown transplant living in the Alamo City.
After spending my first 18 years in SA, I took a 10+ year hiatus (let’s not talk specifics… it’s not polite to ask a llama her age) from the city to live, learn, and travel across the globe.
In 2013, I found myself back in my hometown with a new job, and it only took me a couple of weeks to realize my little ol’ city had changed — a lot.
Feeling lost and a little bored, I needed something to kickstart my new life in my hometown, so I made it my goal to find at least one fabulous thing to do every day of the week. I started compiling those things in a list, and pretty soon it caught on with friends and colleagues. In April 2014, I launched a simple website and newsletter to share my growing list of followers.
Today, I create my list of events every week and publish on my website, Facebook page, and newsletter.
I make my list for the love of the city and the love of sharing fun with anyone interested. No strings attached. I hope you have as much fun doing the stuff on my list as I have making it. (And, okay, I do some of it too. All work and no play makes for an anti-social llama, and we can’t have that.)
If you have questions, suggestions, or comments, feel free to give me a shout!
Why a llama?
It’s actually just from a t-shirt I bought at a market in Buenos Aires. There was a cart selling funky shirts, and the golden llama (set on a super-90’s hunter green) was calling my name. When I decided to get real with my list-o-fun, my pal saw my t-shirt and said, “So, what are you going to call this thing? How about The Social Llama?”
And just like that. A llama was born.
Tina is the face of the llama. Despite a certain very coincidental pop culture reference, she is actually named for a noble San Antonian and fellow globe trotter.
When she’s out and about, you can follow her travels on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram by searching for #roamingllama.
